911 call: Woman bitten by gator while canoeing Hillsborough River

An emergency call summing help for a woman who was bitten by an alligator while canoeing on the Hillsborough River was released Friday afternoon. In the unusual attack, Andrea Reese, 20, of Uniontown, Ohio, sustained injuries to her left thigh and calf on Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She and another woman had set out in a rented canoe from John B. Sargeant Park near Thonotosassa. Reese was treated and released from Tampa General Hospital. On Friday, officials said they believed the alligator attack was defensive in nature -- that it's currently nesting season, and the canoe may have somehow unwittingly disturbed the gator. Reese was treated and released from Tampa General Hospital. [Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office]
