A safe place

Jasmine Walker needed a safe place for her four children and boyfriend to get through Hurricane Irma. She decided to go to John Hopkins Middle School shelter because they were accepting those with special needs, which her son, DJ Woods suffers from due to tuberous sclerosis complex, which causes epilepsy. The family was only given two cots and rotated sleeping on them and the floor while trying to keep their kids calm and entertained through the storm. Walker had to make a decision about putting her family's safety first as she was told she would be fired if she didn't show up to work on Monday. She knew her children's safety was the number one priority. EVE EDELHEIT | Times
