Armed guards in elementary schools? Hillsborough school officials tackle the question today

The Hillsborough County School Board today is expected to debate a controversial plan by Superintendent MaryEllen Elia to put armed guards in all 146 elementary schools. The plan would take four years to phase in and would cost the district $4.5-million a year when implemented. The board is divided over the measure, with some members in favor of it, some against and some still deciding. [AP Photo, Times files] (Dec. 17, 2013)
