Pilot didn't see the man and his daughter walking along the beach before he struck them

The pilot who made an emergency landing on a beach near Venice on Sunday said he never saw the girl or her father walking along the beach. He had seconds to scout emergency landing locations after the engine of his Piper Cherokee failed, he said. He eyed Dog Beach at first, but steered away because there were people there. Instead he put the plane down on Caspersen Beach, its nose coming to rest at the water's edge. [Dirk Shadd | with Meung Doung and BayNews9]
