Rescue workers compete at 2013 World Rescue Challenge in Clearwater

The 2013 WRC marks the first time the international event has been held in the United States. Clearwater Harborview Center and Coachman Park was transformed into a multi-staged disaster site, open to the public, where teams competed in the World Auto Extrication Challenge and the World Trauma Challenge. The public were also invited to observe a water rescue demonstration from the United States Coast Guard and a swift water marine rescue demonstration by units from various local fire departments. A high angle rope rescue and below ground victim evacuation demonstration was performed by various elite Urban Search & Rescue units. St. Petersburg Fire Rescue is the only local team in the competition. [Douglas R. Clifford |] (Oct. 30, 2013)
