Shriners Hospital doctors use casts to delay need for scoliosis surgery

Jonathan (LJ) Lovegrove, 19 months, has congenital scoliosis. At Shriners Hospital for Children, in Tampa, LJ has a new cast put on every two to three months to help correct the curve of his spine. The cast delays the need for surgery until he is older. According to Dr. Joseph Khoury, it is more effective at delaying surgery than the braces more traditionally used to treat scoliosis.
