The Chassohowitzka River is a Cool and Scenic Escape for Area Paddlers

The Chassahowitzka River meanders through the 30,843-acre Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, about 70 miles north of St. Petersburg, and is full of spring heads, fish, and local flora and fauna. Paddlers can launch all types of watercraft from the Chassahowitzka River Campground, in Homosassa, to tour this cool and scenic escape in Citrus County. Boating, paddling, bird watching, camping, fishing, cycling and hiking are all accessible in and around the river and the system’s coastal swamps.
